
Tulane Volleyball Hosts Green Wave Classic

NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane University volleyball team is set to open in Uptown on Friday as they host Howard in the first of three home matches in the Green Wave Classic inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave (2-1, 0-0 AAC) will host Howard (2-0, 0-0 MEAC) on Friday at noon before matching up against Kansas City (1-2, 0-0 Summit League) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Ohio (0-2, 0-0 MAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
Tulane went 2-1 in its opening weekend in Beaumont, Texas at the Katrinka Crawford Invitational. The Green Wave bounced back after dropping its opening match to Southeastern Louisiana, sweeping day two with wins over PVAM and Lamar.
In week one the Olive and Blue showed their talents. Kayla Kaiser tops the AAC leader board in hitting percentage (.411) and aces (8). Mackenzie Martin landed fifth on the overall kills list with 49, averaging 4.08 kills per set. On the setting front Kate Van Houten had 84 assists in 12 sets to average 7.00 assists a set putting her at seventh in the American. Libero Sophia Ervanian's 54 digs placed her at third in the conference after opening weekend.
Howard is currently 2-0 to start the season. After its first match with George Washington was canceled, they came in strong with wins over George Mason (3-1) and Georgetown (3-0). The Green Wave hold a 1-1 all-time record against the Bison, beating the team 3-0 in their most recent matchup in the 2018 season at the Rutgers Invitational.
Kansas City holds a 1-2 record on the 2022Â campaign. They grabbed their opener with a 3-2 victory over Miami (Ohio) and dropped their second two matches of the weekend versus No. 21 Western Kentucky (0-3) and Bradley (2-3). This will be the inaugural match-up between the two teams.Â
The Bobcats are off to a slow start in 2022, dropping their first two matches to Marquette (0-3) and No. 11 Kentucky (0-3). They only meeting between Ohio and Tulane came back on Sept. 19, 2008. The Green Wave picked up the five-set victory on the road in Athens, Ohio.
