
Tulane Drops Four-Set Battle to Oregon State

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane volleyball team battled it out in a hard fought loss against Oregon State in their first match of the Tulane Invitational Saturday morning.

Senior Amarachi Osuji and graduate student Melissa Kolurbasi led the Green Wave with 10 kills each. Senior Kate Van Houten took control of the leader board for Tulane with 33 assists and senior Jillian Dits paced Tulane with 19 digs.

Tulane took an early lead winning the first set, starting out strong with an ace on the first serve of the game. After that, it was a back and forth battle until the Green Wave pulled ahead with three straight points, taking the score to 23-19 and forcing Oregon State to call a timeout. The set went final by a score of 25-21.

The Green Wave fought hard early in the second set, pulling ahead 3-1, but Oregon State was able to gather themselves to tie it up 6-6. Tulane was unable to take the lead again and Oregon State pulled ahead quickly to win the set with a final score of 25-17.

The third set was a replica of the second, tallying a final set score of 25-17.

The Green Wave fell behind early in the fourth set, trailing 2-7, but rallied to 25-25 to try and push the match to five sets. Unfortunately for Tulane, Oregon State pulled out the set victory 27-25.Â
