Russell, Yelamanchili Highlight Four Bound for ITA All-American Championships

NEW ORLEANS – Four members of the Tulane University Women's Tennis team have earned a spot to compete in the ITA Women's All-American Championships this weekend beginning on Saturday, October 1. Kristen Borland, Adelaide Lavery, Charlotte Russell, and Lahari Yelamanchili will each travel to Cary, North Carolina, to play in either the Prequalifying, Qualifying or Main Draw.
"We are thrilled for our ladies to be able to compete at one of the most prestigious tournaments in college tennis," head coach Maria Brito said. "All of their hard work is paying off and they have earned this opportunity. Our program has great momentum and we are excited to see what we can do."
This is the first time in Tulane history the Green Wave has had a doubles team in the main draw, a doubles team in the prequalifying round, and a singles player in the prequalifying round.
The Green Wave pairing of Russell and Yelamanchili highlights the weekend for Tulane as they will compete in the ITA All-American Championships Main Draw beginning on Tuesday, October 5. The duo enters the tournament ranked No. 14 in the Preseason Doubles Division I Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis National Rankings. Russell and Yelamanchili are the first players to qualify for the main draw in singles or doubles for Tulane since Nancy Kockott in 2004.
Yelamanchili also earned a bid to play in Prequalifying Singles which begins on Saturday, October 1. The Burr Ridge, Illinois, native will try to post the best finish the Wave has had in singles in the All-American Championships since 2003 when Julie Smekdub reached the quarterfinals of the main draw.
Tulane will send another doubles duo to the ITA All-American Championships as well as the pairing of Borland and Lavery earned a spot in Prequalifying Doubles. Borland and Lavery are among 32 doubles teams set to compete in the Prequalifying Doubles which will also begin on Saturday, October 1.
