The Green Wave Sweeps Conference Rival, Charlotte

NEW ORLEANS- The Tulane volleyball team (5-18) picked up a conference win on Friday evening by upsetting Charlotte (9-14), 3-0.
The Green Wave offense was led by outside hitters, Avery Burks and Ilayda Demirtas. Both finished the match with 10 kills a piece. Demirtas had an impressive .529 hitting percentage in the contest.
Defensively, Sabrina Skyers led the way with one solo block and one assisted block.
Tulane had a total of nine service aces in the match, four of which came from graduate defensive specialist, Savannah Perry.
The first set began with dominance from the Green Wave early. Tulane went up to a quick 8-1 lead which forced a Charlotte timeout. The Green Wave continued their dominance after the timeout and led for the remainder of the set with a comfortable lead. A set point kill from Demirtas sealed a Tulane set victory, 25-13.
The Green Wave carried their momentum over from the first set, and claimed the first two points of the second set. The 49ers remained nipping at Tulane's heels and tied the Green Wave, 10-10. Tulane kept their composure and scored four back-to-back points to stretch their lead. Despite a Charlotte comeback attempt, the Green Wave led for the remainder of the set by two or more points and defeated the 49ers, 25-18.
In the third set, the Green Wave began with four unanswered points thanks to three back-to-back service aces from Perry. The Green Wave kept their lead for the entirety of the set until a late comeback attempt from the 49ers brought them back within one at 23-22. A Burks kill brought Tulane to match point and another kill from Demirtas sealed the deal. The Green Wave took the set and the match, 25-23.
Tulane will be back in action in Uptown on Sunday afternoon when they host UAB in another conference showdown.
