
The Green Wave Takes Down UAB

NEW ORLEANS- Tulane volleyball (6-18) bested AAC conference rival, UAB (3-22), in four sets on Sunday afternoon.ย
The Green Wave's offense was led by outside hitter, Ilayda Demirtas. Demirtas had 11 kills in the match. Following closely behind was outside hitter Amarachi Osuji and middle blocker, Sabrina Skyers. Both finished the match with 10 kills, which broke Skyers' career best.ย
Tulane's defense had 14 total blocks in the match. Led by Skyers, the sophomore finished the match with seven assisted blocksย and one solo block. Her blocking performance was another career best.ย ย
Tulane had another dominant performance from the service line. They finished the match with seven total aces. Three different servers had multiple aces in the match.ย
In the first set, UAB took the lead early. Tulane trailed until they were able to tie the score, 4-4. The Green Wave scored three unanswered points to lead for the first time in the match. For the remainder of the set, Tulane kept their lead and defeated the Blazers, 25-20.
UAB started off hot again in the second set. After the set score was 1-1, the Blazers scored the next two points and led for the majority of the set. Tulane, however, came back to tie the score 16-16. UAB struck first. The Blazers kept their lead until three back-to-back kills from Avery Burks gave Tulane the lead. The Blazers, however, kept their composure and ended up taking the second set, 27-25.
UAB started off firing in the third set and led until Tulane tied the score 10-10. The Green Wave and the Blazers traded the lead until UAB scored four unanswered late in the set to bring the score to 20-17. UAB continued their scoring until they brought it to match point at 24-19. The Green Wave kept their composure and scored seven back-to-back points to claim the set, 26-24.ย
The final set was another nail-biter in the beginning. Tulane and UAB took turns trading the lead until the score was 17-17. The Green Wave scored two unanswered points to take the lead and did not look back. Tulane led for the remainder of the set and took it home, 25-20.
The Green Wave will travel to Houston, TX on Friday to take on Rice in another AAC matchup.ย
