
Volleyball Set to Take on Rice

The Green Wave volleyball team (6-18) will hit the road on Friday when they travel to Houston, TX to take on Rice (15-7) in an AAC West division match-up.
Game Notes:
Tulane versus Charlotte and UAB:
The Green Wave went 2-0 this past weekend, defeating Charlotte, 3-0, and UAB, 3-1.Â
In Friday's match versus Charlotte, Tulane's offense was led by outside hitters, Avery Burks and Ilayda Demirtas. Both finished the match with 10 kills a piece. Demirtas had an impressive .529 hitting percentage in the contest.
The Green Wave had nine service aces in Friday's match. Graduate student Savannah Perry had four aces in the match.
In Saturday's match against UAB, the Green Wave's offense was led by outside hitter, Ilayda Demirtas. Demirtas had 11 kills in the match. Following closely behind was outside hitter Amarachi Osuji and middle blocker, Sabrina Skyers. Both finished the match with 10 kills, which broke Skyers' career best.
Tulane's defense had 14 total blocks against UAB. Led by Skyers, the sophomore finished the match with seven assisted blocks and one solo block. Her blocking performance was another career best.Â
Skyers was named to the AAC Honor Roll due to her performances against UAB and Charlotte.
Statistics:Â
After Tulane's blocking performance this past weekend, they moved up two spots in the conference blocks per set rankings. They are currently sitting at 4th averaging 2.40 blocks per set.Â
The defensive front is led by middle blocker Sabrina Skyers and libero Lauryn Burrows. Skyers finds herself leading the AAC in blocks per set averaging 1.19. Burrows is second in the AAC in digs per set with 4.45.Â
Burks remains in the top six in the conference in kills per set. The freshman currently sits at 6th in the AAC in kills per set averaging 3.31.
Defensive specialist Savannah Perry is Tulane's go-to player at the service line. She is second in the AAC in aces per set averaging .43.
Rice Matchup:Â
Rice is 15-7 so far this season. In conference, they have eight wins and three losses which places them 3rd in the west standings and third overall.Â
Their three losses came against SMU twice (3-1, 3-2) and FAU (3-2).Â
Rice is one of the many newcomers to join the American Athletic Conference. Tulane, however, does have some history with the Owls as former Conference-USA foes.Â
Rice has a slight edge in the series contest. They are leading, 13-15. The last time the two teams met was 10 years ago in 2013.Â
