MOBILE, Ala. – Tulane volleyball (4-2) had its four-match win streak snapped Friday afternoon in a 0-3 loss to Georgia (5-2) on the opening day of the South Alabama Invitational. The Green Wave battled throughout the match but ultimately was unable to keep up with the hot hitting Bulldogs.

With the loss, the Wave dropped to 4-2 on the season and suffered in first neutral site defeat of the year.

Lauryn Mack led eight players who registered at least on kill in the match with 11 kills to go with eight digs. Mack has recorded double-digit kills in each of her last four matches. Following her on the attack for the Green Wave were Avery Burks with nine kills and Maddy McLin with seven.

Showing her versatility on the court once again was Charlee Solomon who recorded five kills with a .444 hitting percentage while also leading Tulane with 25 assists. Solomon also tied for the team lead with eight digs.

The Wave scored the first point of the day on a kill by Mack to begin the first set, but Georgia was quick to answer with the next six points. After a Tulane timeout the Green Wave slowly began to cut into the deficit eventually pulling within three (18-21). However, the Bulldogs were able to respond again as Tulane dropped the set 20-25.

In the second set the Green Wave claimed the early advantage building 8-4 lead after a kill by Burks. Georgia did not back down responding with nine-straight points to put Tulane behind 8-13. The Wave fought to stay within striking distance, but once again the attack from the Bulldogs was too much as Tulane fell 18-25 in the set.

Tulane and Georgia briefly went back-and-forth to open the third set until a service error by the Wave opened the door for a 4-0 run by the Bulldogs. Unfortunately, the Green Wave was never able to recover from the early run by Georgia and went on to drop the third set 16-25 to lose the match 0-3.

UP NEXT
The Green Wave will take on Kennesaw State on Saturday, September 12, at the South Alabama Invitational. The match between Tulane and the Owls is schedule to start at 2 p.m. in Mobile, Alabama.
