
Tulane Falls to East Carolina on the Road

GREENVILLE, NC- The Green Wave volleyball team (4-13) was bested by the East Carolina Pirates (13-4) in their fifth conference matchup of the season.ย ย
Freshman outside hitter, Avery Burks, led the team offensively finishing the match with 15 kills and a .294 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker, Jordan White, finished the match one shy of her career-high in kills with 5.ย
Defensively, Lauryn Burrows led the Green Wave in digs with 11 and Orsula Staka finished the match with a block and an assisted block.ย ย
In the first set, Tulane started off hot after two back-to-back kills from Staka. The Pirates remained on their tail tying the score back at, 4-4. After much back and forth, the Green Wave began to pull ahead and led, 13-8. East Carolina did not give up and ended up tying the match 15-15. The Pirates got on top and led for the remainder of the set. East Carolina claimed the first set, 25-19.ย
In the second set, Tulane started off hot much like the first. They ended up leading the Pirates 11-6. After a Green Wave service error, momentum shifted back to East Carolina and the Pirates were able to score three unanswered points and come back within two. After multiple errors from Tulane, the score was back tied 12-12. The Pirates and the Green Wave were back and forth for the remainder of the set until they were tied, 22-22. East Carolina ended up taking the last three points and the set.ย
East Carolina carried the momentum over from the first two sets and played a dominant third set. They ended up going up, 3-0 and led for the entirety of the set. The Green Wave was defeated, 25-12.
Tulane will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Memphis on Sunday to take on the Tigers in another American Athletic Conference matchup.ย
