TULSA, OK- The Green Wave volleyball team (6-24) fell to Tulsa (16-14) in their final AAC West game on Sunday afternoon.
Once again, Tulane's offensive effort was spearheaded by freshman Avery Burks. The outside hitter concluded the match with a team-high of 10 kills. Not far behind was graduate, Amarachi Osuji, contributing significantly with seven kills to round out the team's offensive performance.
The Green Wave's defense had six total blocks in the match. Leading the charge was the middle blocker, Sabrina Skyers, who capped off the match with three assisted blocks. Libero, Lauryn Burrows led the defense in digs. The AAC top three-ranked player had 13 digs in the match.
The first set started with a back-and-forth battle between Tulane and Tulsa until the score was 5-5. Seizing momentum, the Green Wave embarked on a decisive 3-0 scoring streak to establish a lead, only to see the Golden Hurricane rally back to level the score at 15-15. For the next portion of the set, the Green Wave and Tulsa traded the lead until 20-20. Tulsa then secured the next two crucial points, maintaining their advantage until the end. The Green Wave was able to get on the board one more time but fell 25-21.
Tulsa dominated from the beginning of the second set. After the score was 1-1, the Golden Hurricane surged ahead by scoring the next seven points consecutively, leaving the Green Wave unable to answer. The lead possessed by Tulsa was too much for Tulane to chip away at. The Golden Hurricane took the second set, 25-16.
The third set was much like the second. After a tied score at 1-1, Tulsa secured six unanswered points that forced the Green Wave into a challenging position compelling them to mount a comeback. Unable to regain momentum, the Green Wave trailed by seven or more points and fell 25-16.
Tulane aims to conclude their season on a high note this Wednesday as they host FAU at noon. The Green Wave will kick off the match by honoring their four seniors in their senior ceremony.
