Wave Meets Mississippi State for Holiday Hoopsgiving in Atlanta Saturday

ATLANTA – Tulane University men's basketball (6-1) will make its second appearance in Holiday Hoopsgiving on Saturday when it squares off against Mississippi State (6-2) at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The Green Wave will aim for its fourth consecutive win to match its best start under head coach Ron Hunter since opening the 2019-20 campaign 7-1.

The game between the Green Wave and the Bulldogs is set to tipoff at 10:30 a.m. CT/11:30 a.m ET on SEC Network. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the 98th all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Bulldogs with Tulane trailing the series 41-56. The Wave is 1-5 all-time against the Bulldogs in neutral site games including an 80-66 loss in the latest meeting in the Myrtle Beach Invitational on November 21, 2019. The last time the Green Wave defeated Mississippi State came on December 6, 2014, in New Orleans by a final score of 59-54.

In its last time out, Tulane earned its first true road victory of the season defeating Fordham 89-81 in Bronx, New York, on Sunday afternoon. Collin Holloway led all scorers in the game with a career-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting to go with five rebounds and a career best three blocks. The Green Wave shot 54.2 percent from the field as a team marking the sixth time in seven games this season Tulane has connected at a 50 percent clip or better.

All five starters are averaging double figures in scoring so far this season for the Green Wave. Cross leads the team with 19.5 points per game to go with a team high 7.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Cross is also the only player in the American Athletic Conference to rank in the top 10 in the league in scoring, field goal percentage, rebounding, blocks, and minutes played.

Through December 6, the Green Wave leads the AAC in scoring offense (88.4), field goal percentage (.531), free throws made per game (24.4), free throws attemped per game (31.4),
steals (10.6), turnovers forced per game (16.71), and turnover margin (+5.1).

The Bulldogs enter the matchup on a two-game losing streak with a 6-2 overall record. Mississippi State dropped its last two contests 60-59 to Southern and 67-59 to Georgia Tech. Josh Hubbard leads the Bulldogs offensive attack averaging 16.0 points per game and 43.2 percent shooting from the field and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc. Mississippi State is 3-0 so far this season in neutral site contests with wins over Arizona State, Washington State, and Northwestern. The Bulldogs are led by their defense which ranks in the top 10 in scoring, field goal percentage defense, and three-point field goal percentage.

Following the matchup with the Bulldogs, the Green Wave will return home to host Furman on Thursday, December 14, in Uptown. The game between the Green Wave and the Paladins will tipoff at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
