Dec 9, 2023 | Men's Basketball
ATLANTA – Tulane University men's basketball (6-2) dropped just its second game of the season on Saturday as it fell 106-76 to Mississippi State (7-2) in State Farm Arena in Atlanta as part of Holiday Hoopsgiving. The Green Wave faced an early deficit and was unable to claw back into the game due to the best shooting performance of the season by the Bulldogs.
Tulane shot 42 percent from the floor to tally 76 points in the contest and become the first team this season to score 70 points or more against Mississippi State. The Wave continued to be aggressive attacking the rim against the Bulldogs scoring 32 points in the paint and making 34 trips to the charity stripe.
Three players scored double figures for Tulane in the loss led by sophomore Kolby King with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Collin Holloway tallied 12 points to go with six rebounds. Tre' Williams rounded out the top scorers for the Green Wave with 10 points along with four assists and three rebounds.
Mississippi State connected at a 59 percent clip from the floor and 46 percent from beyond the arc. Both shooting percentages marked the season best for the Bulldogs. Josh Hubbard led the attack for the Bulldogs with 27 points in the contest.
The contest opened with 10 straight points by the Bulldogs putting the Green Wave into an early deficit. Tulane began to find a little rhythm offensively in the first half, but the shots continued to fall at a high rate for Mississippi State as the deficit reached as many as 30 points before sitting at 62-34 at the half.
Momentum stayed with the Bulldogs as shots continued to fall for Mississippi State in the second half. Tulane trailed by as many as 41 points midway through the second half before ultimately falling by a final score of 106-76.
Up next, Tulane return home to host Furman on Thursday, December 7, in Uptown. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Paladins is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
