Indoor Track & Field Places Fourth at the 2023 AAC Championships

Birmingham, Alabama – Tulane's women's indoor track and field program had a historic fourth-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. The program recorded 65.5 points over the course of the two days of the meet. The program had three medal winners on afternoon and had six top-10 finishes. Over the course of both days of the championships, Tulane accumulated two event wins in the finals and four top-three medal finishes.
The fourth-place finish was the highest-ever for the program in the AAC. The previous high was fifth place in 2017. The program jumped four spots from last year when they finished eighth. This year's finish was the highest for any Tulane women's team since 1999 when the squad won the C-USA Championships.
Kara Steele won the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 13.07m. She was the only athlete at the championship in the triple jump to reach 13 meters. Kaia Todd finished 20th with a 11.29m.
Mackenzie Callahan finished second in the mile with a 4:48.93 to record All-AAC honors for the first time in her Tulane track & field career.
Victoria Robinson finished as the runner-up in the 800m with a her personal-best time of 2:08.58. It was her first time being an All-AAC selection. Janae Dean placed fifth in the event with a 2:09.53.
The 4x400m relay team of Kristen O'Handley, Dean, Alexis Esteves and Robinson finished just out of the medals in placing fourth with a 3:44.32. The squad was just over a second away from finishing third.
Maren Butler led the four Tulane throwers in the shot put in placing sixth overall with a 14.72m. Norah Bice finished 17th with a 11.52m, Bella Gonzalez placed 18th with an 11.41m and Alyssa Dismuke earned 19th place with an 11.33m.
Sophia McNerney finished 22nd in the 3000m with a 10:05.03. Allison Nelson earned 34th in the same event with a 10:20.22.
Next, the program awaits to see if individual athletes qualified for the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 10-11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tulane is scheduled to start outdoor season on March 17-18 at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette.
