NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team is back in action this weekend at City Park Tennis Center as Houston visits for a 2 p.m. match on Friday, while Memphis comes calling for a noon affair on Sunday.
Â
For the Sunday match, beignets will be available for the first 50 fans in attendance, as well as free round-trip Uber rides for Tulane students to and from the Wilson Athletic Center to the City Park Tennis courts between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Uber link is https://r.uber.com/rgJo0AoWAze, while the code is rgJo0AoWAze.
Â
The contest against the Cougars will be carried on ESPN+ here:Â https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/ff72e04e-3a78-437c-8585-79587aae29be, with Andrew Beyer and Corey Gloor calling the action.
Â
The Green Wave (3-5 overall) was last in action when it dropped a 5-2 home decision to #28 LSU last Friday. Tulane started strong in singles as the scores were tight on virtually every court. However, LSU powered back and secured the win with triumphs at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5.
Â
Kristen Borland won the first set tiebreaker 8-6, then dropped the second set, before finishing it off 6-3 in strong fashion to win at No. 3. Brooke Theis, who is no stranger to three-set battles, won her first set 6-3, dropped the next one 4-6 and captured the third set tiebreaker in a 7-1 rout to emerge victorious at No. 6.
Â
The Tigers swept the doubles action in all three matches.
Â
Houston (8-3), who is currently riding a seven-match winning streak, knocked off Louisiana Monroe 6-1 in its last outing.
Â
Memphis (2-9) snapped a six-match skid on Sunday when it went on the road and defeated the Gophers of Minnesota 4-1.
