#43 Tulane Rebounds in Singles to Defeat #56 Tulsa
Mar 24, 2023 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, OK – The 43rd-ranked Tulane men's tennis team fell behind early at No. 56 Tulsa by dropping the all-important doubles point, but the bottom of its singles lineup picked up the slack as the visitors knocked off the Golden Hurricane 4-3 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
The Green Wave improved to 11-7 overall, while Tulsa dipped to 7-9 in 2023.
The Golden Hurricane won the doubles point via victories at Nos. 1 and 3. The No. 2 match, featuring Tulane's Luka Petrovic and Sam Scherer, went unfinished.
Tulsa took the No. 2 singles match, but the Green Wave roared back with wins in the other completed contests to secure the victory. Billy Suarez (6-4, 6-2), Alex Bancila (7-5, 6-4) and Rafael de Alba (6-1, 7-6 (4)) all garnered straight-set wins. The Olive and Blue's Luc Hoeijmans (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) then put the visitors over the top with a three-set win at No. 4.
The No. 1 tilt between 28th-ranked Kody Pearson and 114th-ranked Fynn Kuenkler went unfinished, with Pearson leading 2-1 in the third set.
The road doesn't get any easier for Tulane as it heads to Stillwater on Sunday to face #36 Oklahoma State.
