Tulane Wraps Up First Day of Racing in 2023

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing finished the opening day of the 2023 season competing at the top of the Garner Tullis Open Team Race and the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race on Saturday. The Green Wave holds the top two spots in the Garner Tullis Open Team Race in New Orleans and sits in second at the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race in Charleston, South Carolina.

Racing on Lake Pontchartrain Tulane fielded two teams to open the Garner Tullis Open Team Race – Green Wave and Angry Wave. Team Green Wave finished the first day of races in first place with an 11-1 record. Skippers Zander King, Peter Foley, and Quinn Keenan paired with crews Alex Makoid, Kit Stoll, and Essie Clifton to lead team Green Wave through the first three rounds of the regatta. Team Angry Wave was led by skippers Matheo Capasso, Ashley Hoguet, and Bobby Rielly with skippers Ryan Ehnot, Brady Starck, and Raquel Shulman to a 10-2 record.

Meanwhile, in Charleston, South Carolina, Tulane finished the day with an 8-2 record through the first two rounds of the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race. Skippers Caroline Benson, Mia Hanes, and Ciara Rodriguez-Horan raced with skippers Ellie Spearman, Abigail Borggaard, Megan Cassidy, Lydia Brown, and Catherine Anderson to earn wins against Coast Guard, College of Charleston, Jacksonville, and South Florida. The Wave's only losses on the day came against Stanford who holds the top spot with a 10-0 record.

On Sunday the Green Wave will wrap up the first weekend regattas of the 2023 season. Racing will begin at 10 a.m. CT at the Garner Tullis Open Team Race and will start at 9 a.m. CT in the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race.
