
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Ranked No. 11 Regionally and Fourth in the TFRI

NEW ORLEANS – Following an impressive first few weeks of the outdoor season, the Tulane women's' outdoor track & field program is currently ranked 11th in the South Central Region by the USTFCCCA, the organization announced this week. The Tulane women also find themselves ranked fourth in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in the first released USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI).
Tulane received a total of 199.71 points in the regional poll. The Green Wave are one of 12 women's teams from the state of Louisiana that are ranked regionally. Among the 12, only LSU (No. 4) has a higher regional ranking than Tulane. The Green Wave are also the second-highest ranked in the South Central Region of three squads from the American Athletic Conference (AAC). The program is just behind Houston (No. 9) and ahead of SMU (No. 17). The Green Wave, after only having three student-athletes compete last week at the Lloyd Wills Invitational, fell two spots in this week's poll.
In the first released USTFCCCA TFRI, Tulane is placed fourth in the AAC with 627.42 points. The program falls only behind UCF, Wichita State and South Florida in the league rankings.
The women's program has 23 athletes that are ranked among the top 10 in the AAC in an event after the first four weeks of the campaign in Kristen O'Handley – 10th – 200m, Janae Dean – 3rd – 800m, Victoria Robinson – 8th – 800m, Mackenzie Callahan – 3rd – 1500m, Kristen O'Handley – 9th – 100m hurdles, Mackenzie Callahan – 1st – 3000m steeplechase, Allie Nelson – 9th – 3000m steeplechase, 4x400m relay – 5th, Kristen O'Handley – 6th – high jump, Kristina Leggas – 6th – pole vault, Kate Sander – 9th – pole vault, Kara Steele – 3rd – triple jump, Maren Butler – 4th – shot put, Maren Butler – 6th – discus, Kara Schiek – 3rd – javelin, Patricija Ozolina – 8th – javelin, Kristen O'Handley – 1st – Heptathlon, Margot Temines – 2nd – Heptathlon, Patricija Ozolina – 5th – Heptathlon, Kaia Todd – 8th – Heptathlon and Laura Fodor – 10th – Heptathlon.
The Tulane women's team also has six athletes that are ranked among the top 10 in the South Central Region in Mackenzie Callahan - 8th – 1500m, Mackenzie Callahan – 5th – 3000m steeplechase, Kara Steele – 6th – triple jump, Kristen O'Handley – 2nd – Heptathlon, Margot Temines – 3rd – Heptathlon and Patricija Ozolina – 9th – Heptathlon.
The USTFCCCA regional poll was voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences around the country.
Next, the program participates in three meets from April 13-15. The team travels for a pair of meets in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational and at the Mt Sac Relays. The program will also send a delegation to Hammond, Louisiana to participate in the Strawberry Relays on April 15.
