Bernat Headed to Athens Regional

NEW ORELANS – A historic week for Carla Bernat continues as she is headed to the Athens, Georgia NCAA Regional site.  Â

The Athens Regional will be played at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia with Georgia serving as the host institution.

In the last 24 hours the sophomore has been named to Team International for the Arnold Palmer Cup, been named the AAC Women's Golfer of the Year and AAC All-Conference. This is the first time a Tulane golfer, men's or women's, has been named to the Palmer Cup and the first time since joining the American that a Tulane golfer has been named Golfer of the Year.

This is the second straight year Bernat will compete in a NCAA Regional, with Tulane having competed in the Stillwater Regional as a team last season.

Regional play will take place May 8-10 at six regional sites, with a total of 396 student-athletes competing. All six regional sites will have 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site, 156 student-athletes total, will advance to play in the national championships to be played May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Championship play will be hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds, with the final three days of the championships televised live by the GOLF Channel.Â
