Tulane Set for ICSA National Championships
May 22, 2023 | Sailing
KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Tulane University Sailing program will compete for a national title in three separate racing disciplines this week at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) National Championships from May 23-June 2. The races will be hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.
The Green Wave will start the week by taking to the water for the Women's Fleet Race National Championship Tuesday through Friday. The Tulane women's team will be the 13 seed out of 36 teams in the regatta. The Wave was one of two teams from the SEISA Conference to earn an automatic bid to the championship. Tulane finish sixth in the 2022 ICSA Women's Fleet Race Championship.
In the second championship of the week Tulane will compete for the Open Team Race National Championship from Saturday to Monday. The Wave enters as the only team from the SEISA Conference and will be the 10 seed among 16 teams in the regatta. Tulane finished eighth in the ICSA Open Team Race National Championship a season ago.
The Green Wave will aim to defend its 2022 ICSA Open Fleet Race national title in this year's championship regatta from May 30 to June 2. Once again Tulane will be the only program from the SEISA Conference represented in the race entering as the 16 seed out of 36 teams. The Wave won the Open Fleet Race National Championship in 2022 as the seven seed from the eastern semifinals. That title marked the first time Tulane had won the Open Fleet Race National Championship since 1973.
