
Green Wave Advances to Open Fleet Race National Championship Finals

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Tulane vaulted itself into the 2023 ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship Finals by climbing from 11th place to ninth in the Eastern Semifinals on Wednesday. The Green Wave finished in the top 10 in six of the final 12 races of the semifinals to post a total score of 257 points and secure a spot in the finals beginning Thursday morning.
The Wave received nearly equal production from both divisions in the semifinals. The B Division outpaced the A Division by just 14 points through 13 total races for each division. Ciara Rodriguez-Horan raced with Gillian Perrell for the final seven races in the B Division to finish eighth with a total score of 115. The duo landed in the top 10 in four of the seven races including three top five finishes. Thad Lettsome and Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez also raced for the Green Wave in the B Division.
Meanwhile in the A Division, Tulane moved from 13th to 11th behind the racing of Cameron Giblin with Riefkohl-Gonzalez in the last five rotations in the division. The Wave ended the semifinals with 129 total points in the A Division after Giblin and Riefkohl-Gonzalez posted three top six finishes in their final five races. Giblin also raced with Perrell and Brady Starck in the semifinals.
The Green Wave will be among the field of 18, the top nine teams each from the Eastern and Western semifinals, for the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship Finals. Tulane will continue its fight to defend its 2022 Open Fleet Race national title in the final two days of racing on Thursday and Friday.
