Former Tulane Pitcher J.P. France gets called up by the Houston Astros
NEW ORLEANS – Former Tulane right-handed pitcher J.P. France has been promoted to the Houston Astros' active roster and will join the club in Seattle Friday night for its game versus the Mariners.
The promotion makes France the 30th player in program history to reach the majors. He was the 432nd overall selection in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.
France, a Luling, Louisiana, native, played at Tulane from 2014-17. He appeared in 48 career games with 31 starts during his time in Uptown. He posted a career record of 13-12 with a 4.01 ERA and one save in 206.2 innings. He allowed 212 hits and 113 runs (92 earned) while striking out 176 and walking 64.
In 2016, he made the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll twice, May 2 and May 23, and was the LSWA Pitcher of the Week on May 2.
France received his undergraduate degree in homeland security studies in 2017.

France is the first former Green Wave player to reach the big leagues in 2023. The right-hander will be making the short 30-minute drive from his triple-A affiliate in Sugar Land, Texas, to Minute Maid Park in Houston.
