
Baseball Drops 7-4 Saturday Contest to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Tulane baseball team (14-14, 2-3 American) dropped the squad's second consecutive game to UAB (17-10, 3-2 American) by a 7-4 margin on Saturday afternoon, March 28, at Young Memorial Field.
LuisPablo Navarro (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on two walks in his inning. J.D. Rodriguez started for Tulane. He walked four and allowed two runs in his inning. Jude Abbadessa surrendered a run and walked five with two strikeouts in his three innings as the first man out of the bullpen. Sam Larson gave up two runs on two hits and a walk in his inning out of the bullpen. Jack Brafa was the most effective reliever in closing the game out with a pair of unscored upon innings with two strikeouts.
Jason Wachs had a hit and an RBI to help lead the offense. Nate Johnson scored a run, walked twice and had a hit. Brett Rowell totaled a hit and an RBI plus a walk. Trent Liolios walked twice and scored a run. James Agabedis drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt. Tanner Chun walked twice and scored a run. Matthias Haas drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Konner Keplinger (1-0) earned the win for the Blazers with 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Riley Miller earned his second save of the season throwing the final three innings with one run allowed.
Tulane's pitching staff tied a season-high with 12 walks allowed. The team also surrendered eight hits. The offense was limited to four runs on four hits.
UAB scored first for the second consecutive game as Brady Waugh's two-out single through the right side plated a tally.
Tulane answered and took the team's first lead of the weekend, 2-1, with two runs in the second frame. Rowell drove in the first and tied the game with a single to the opposite field. Agabedis gave the team the lead with his RBI squeeze bunt.
UAB took the lead back, 3-2, with two runs in the bottom of the frame on Alex Dupuy's two-out two-run single.
Tulane leveled the game at three in the sixth on a pinch hit sacrifice fly from Haas.
The Blazers again took the lead right back in the bottom of the frame with four runs. Andrew Hunt hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Wesley Helms and Max Price followed with RBI base hits. A failed pick off at first allowed the runner from third to race home with the fourth tally of the inning and give UAB a 7-3 advantage.
Tulane closed the gap to three, 7-4, on a Wachs RBI single in the seventh, but that was as close as the team would get.
Next, Tulane attempts to salvage the final game of the series against the Blazers on Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
