
Kristen O’Handley Competes at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships This Weekend

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane outdoor track & field program is back in action and sends Kristen O'Handley to this week's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships go from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas at Mike Myers Stadium. O'Handley will compete in the Heptathlon on the final two days of the competition. All four days will be broadcasted live on ESPN's family of networks including both ESPN2 and ESPN+. Please check the above link to follow along live on the proper station.
O'Handley's school-record 5,802 points achieved at the Virginia Challenge on April 20 ranks her 10th nationally in the event. She was an NCAA Indoor All-American in the Pentathlon earlier in the spring with a school-record 4,277 points.
The Heptathlon starts on Friday, June 9, at 2:45 p.m. with the 100m hurdles. O'Handley is scheduled to compete in Section 2. The other events on the opening day of the Heptathlon are the high jump (3:45 p.m.), shot put (5:45 p.m.) and the 200m hurdles (9:43 p.m.). O'Handley competes in the Flight 1 of the high jump, Flight 1 of the shot put and Section 2 of the 200m dash
The second day of the Heptathlon on Saturday, June 10, begins at 4 p.m. with the long jump. O'Handley competes in the Flight 1 of the long jump. The final two events of the Heptathlon are the javelin at 5:15 p.m. and the 800m at 9:43 p.m. She competes in Flight 2 of the javelin and in a yet to be announced Flight for the 800m.
O'Handley is the first Tulane female to ever qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the Heptathlon. She is the first Tulane female athlete to reach NCAA's during the outdoor season since 2019 when Rebekah Markel qualified in the pole vault. O'Handley is attempting to be Tulane's first Outdoor All-American since Markel in 2019. She is also attempting to be the first Tulane track and field athlete to be both an Indoor and Outdoor All-American in the same season since Jasmine Blocker in the 400m during the 2016 campaign.
The top eight finishers in the Heptathlon will secure First Team All-American honors. The next eight finishers earn Second Team All-American distinction.
