Tulane Invitational Preview

The Tulane University volleyball team is set to wrap up their non-conference play as they host UTEP, Clemson, and Houston Christian at the Tulane Invitational beginning Thursday.

Game Notes

At the Islanders Classic

This past weekend, Tulane went 2-1 at the Islanders Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. They defeated Prairie View A&M, 3-0, and UTRGV, 3-1. The Green Wave was bested by Weber State, 3-1.

Redshirt sophomore outside hitter, Ilayda Demirtas, and graduate libero, Lauryn Burrows, were both named to the Islanders Classic all-tournament team.

Burrows was also named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll after her performance. She finished with 20 or more digs in two of the three matches played while averaging 5.91 digs per set.

Points Leaders

Burrows leads the AAC individual standings in kills per set averaging 5.39 so far this season.

Middle blocker, Sabrina Skyers, leads the AAC in blocks per set. The sophomore is averaging 1.59. Graduate middle blocker, Osula Staka, is averaging 1.39 blocks per set which places her third in the AAC standings.

Outside hitter, Avery Burks, is third is third in the AAC in kills per set and points per set. The freshman is averaging 3.50 kills per set and 4.05 points per set.

This Week's Matchups

UTEP is coming into the Tulane Invitational with a 6-2 record. Their two losses come from Power 5 opponents in Arizona State and NC State. Tulane and UTEP have met 16 times as former Conference USA rivals. Tulane leads the series 14-2.

Clemson enters the week with a 6-3 record. Clemson and Tulane have a common loss this season in South Alabama. The Tigers and the Green Wave were both defeated by the Jaguars, 0-3. The two teams have only met three times previously. Tulane is currently leading the series, 2-1.

Houston Christian heads to New Orleans with a 4-5 record. The Green Wave has two common opponents with the Huskies this season. Both Tulane and Houston Christian defeated Prairie View A&M and UTRGV. Tulane is 1-0 against Houston Christian.
