
Volleyball Falls to UTEP

On the first day of the Tulane Invitational, the Green Wave was bested by UTEP, 3-0.
Offensively, Tulane was led by freshman outside hitter, Avery Burks, and redshirt sophomore outside hitter, Ilayda Demirtas. Burks finished the match with 10 kills and Demirtas finished with seven.
Defensively, Burks and graduate defensive specialist Savannah Perry, finished the match with a game high eight digs a piece. The Green Wave had eight total blocks in the match.
UTEP came out firing in the first set and kept the momentum the whole way through. They started with five unanswered points and led Tulane for the remainder of the set. Despite a late comeback attempt by the Green Wave, at 18-17, it was not able to take the momentum back from the Miners. UTEP took the set 25-20.
Tulane struck first in the second set and kept the close at 5-5. However, UTEP scored three unanswered points and kept the lead for the remainder of the set. The Green Wave was defeated by UTEP, 25-15.
Tulane was not calling it quits just yet at the beginning of the third set. They started off hot with three unanswered points and led at 6-5. However, a talented UTEP team remained on their tail and tied the score. For the remainder of the set, the Green Wave trailed and was defeated 25-18.
Tulane will take on Clemson on Friday on day two of the Tulane Invitational. The match will be played at 6:30 PM and tickets can be purchased at TulaneTix.com.
