NEW ORLEANS - On the final day of the Green Wave Classic, Tulane swept Alabama A&M in three sets (25-13, 25-10, 25-13).
Freshman outside hitter Avery Burks led the team in kills, once again, with eight in the match. Outside hitter Ilayda Demitiras followed close behind with seven kills, which was her season high.
Defensively, graduate libero Lauryn Burrows led the Green Wave in digs with 10 in the match.
In the first set, the Green Wave started off hot and never let go of the momentum. After it ran the score to 10-2, the Bulldogs were not able to keep pace. For the remainder of the set, the Green Wave led by eight or more points. It ended up claiming the first set, 25-13.
The Green Wave carried the momentum over from the first set and continued its dominance. Alabama A&M was nipping at Tulane's heels at 6-4, however, the Green Wave went on a 7-1 run. Tulane ended up taking the set by the score of 25-10.
Tulane handled the third set much like the first two. It got out to a quick 5-0 start thanks to two service aces from graduate defensive specialist Savannah Perry and multiple Alabama A&M errors en route to a 25-13 victory.
Burrows was named to the Green Wave Classic's All-Tournament team. The libero finished the weekend with 50 digs. Other members of the team were Sam Houston's Avery Fowler and Alyssa Fielder. Alabama's representatives were Kendyl Reaugh and Alyiah Wells.
The Green Wave will be back in action Friday when it travels to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on Prairie View A&M in the first day of the Islander Classic.
