NEW ORLEANS -The Tulane University volleyball team will travel to Corpus Christi, TX to continue their tournament play by partaking in the Islanders Classic hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi.Â
The Green Wave will play three matches starting Friday. The first match will be against Prairie View A&M. Saturday's match will feature Tulane and Weber State. The Green Wave will wrap up Sunday against UTRGV.Â
Game Notes
At the Green Wave Classic
This past weekend, Tulane went 1-2 in their home opening slate at the Green Wave Classic. Â
The Green Wave took on Alabama on Friday and lost 3-0 in three close sets (25-22, 26-24,25-22). OnÂ
Saturday Tulane was bested by Sam Houston 3-1, in another handful of close sets. After winning the first set 25-23, the Bearkats ended up taking the final three 25-22, 25-20, and 27-25.
On the final day of the Green Wave Classic, Tulane handled Alabama A&M with ease. They defeated them 3-0 and won each set by 12 or more points.Â
Graduate Libero, Lauryn Burrows, was named to the Green Wave Classic All-Tournament team.Â
Statistical Leaders
Sophomore middle blocker, Sabrina Skyers, leads the AAC in average blocks per set (1.75). Redshirt sophomore outside hitter, Ilayda Demirtas, is third in the AAC averaging 1.50 blocks per set.Â
Freshman outside hitter, Avery Burks, leads the Green Wave in kills (75) and is second on the team in digs (74). She is third in the AAC for kills per set (3.94) fourth in total points per set (4.47).Â
Burrows, is second in in the AAC in average digs per set (5.06).Â
Junior setter, Laura Fiabane is seventh in the AAC in average assists per set (7.35).
This Weekend's Matchups
Prairie View A&M began the season 2-4 earning wins against Tarleton State and Northern Arizona, both in five sets. They were swept, 3-0, in their other four matches. The Green Wave is 4-0 against Prairie View A&M. They last met last season and were swept by Tulane, 3-0.Â
Weber State arrives to Corpus Christi with a 3-3 record. They have wins over Utah Tech, Manhattan, and UNLV. This will be the first time the two teams have met.Â
UTRGV kicked off the season with a 3-3 record. Two of the losses the Vaquero's have, came from top 25 ranked opponents. The Green Wave is 1-1 against UTRGV historically, and have not met since 2016.Â
