The Green Wave Sweeps Prairie View A&M
Sep 8, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX -Â On day one of the Islanders Classic, Tulane Volleyball handled Prairie View A&M in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-13).Â
The Green Wave offensive front was led by redshirt sophomore, Ilayda Demirtas. The outside hitter finished the match with 10 kills, which was her career best. Following closely behind was freshman outside hitter, Avery Burks, and sophomore right side hitter/setter, Katherine Crosley. They both had nine kills in the match, which was Crosley's career best.Â
Defensively, graduate libero, Lauryn Burrows, led the team in digs. She finished the match with 21. Tulane's middles also had a day. Sophomore middle blocker Sabrina Skyers led the team with two solo blocks and three of the assisted variety.Â
The first set was dominated by the Green Wave from the start. Tulane went off to a quick 12-4 start. The momentum the Green Wave possessed was too much for the Panthers to handle. Tulane took the set 25-15. Burrows picked up her first kill of the season in the set.Â
The second set was also dominated by the Green Wave, much like the first. However, Prairie View A&M kept the score very close for the first third of the match. The Panthers tied Tulane at 8-all off of an attack error but the Green Wave ended up going on a run and won the set 25-18.Â
The last set was a lot more of a nail biter than the first two. Tulane and Prairie View A&M were back and forth for the large majority of the set. The two teams were tied at 21-all. The Green Wave kept its cool and went up two on the Panthers by an attack error and a Demirtas kill. Tulane won the set 25-23.Â
The Green Wave will look to go 2-0 on the weekend, tomorrow, when it takes on Weber State on day two of the Islander Classic.Â
