IRVING, Texas - Tulane cross country freshmen Caroline Jeptanui and Bernard Cheruiyot were honored as the Men's and Women's Athlete of the Week, the American Athletic Conference (AAC) announced Tuesday.
Both athletes delivered strong performances at the recent 45th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on October 4 in Chicago, earning the league's weekly cross country awards.
Jeptanui shattered the school record with an impressive time of 19:04.85, finishing second overall behind Alabama's Doris Lemngole, the 2023 NCAA runner-up and collegiate record holder.
Her performance helped lead the Tulane women to a seventh-place team finish, ahead of NCAA No. 10 Wisconsin and just eight points behind No. 29 Texas.
Meanwhile in the men's race, Cheruiyot finished fifth overall with a time of 22:55.64, leading the Wave men to an eighth-place finish. He currently holds the school record with his earlier season time of 22:50.40.
This Saturday, October 19, the Olive and Blue will compete at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals meet, facing some of the top teams in the nation.
