Nov 15, 2024 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Tulane men's basketball (3-1) suffered its first defeat on the road Friday night 67-75 at Furman (4-0). After a slow start the Green Wave found some offensive rhythm in the second half but was ultimately unable to overcome 13 made three-pointers by the Paladins.
With the loss, Tulane dropped to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 all-time against Furman.
Three players scored in double figures for the Wave led by Asher Woods with 17. Woods also added five rebounds, three assists, and a steal to his stat line. Mari Jordan and Gregg Glenn III followed with 14 points each marking the second game in double-digits for Jordan and the third for Glenn III this season.
As a team Tulane shot better from the field than Furman connecting on 42.6 percent of its shots overall to just 37.9 percent for the Paladins. However, Furman made up the difference by knocking down 13 three-pointers despite shooting 36.1 percent from beyond the arc.
The contest started with Furman throwing the first punch by jumping out to a 13-4 advantage in the first four minutes. Over the next several minutes the two teams traded buckets until the Green Wave scored eight-straight to pull within two at 27-25 with 2:11 remaining in the half. After the Paladins quickly pushed their lead back to seven, Tyler Ringgold buried a three to put the Wave down 28-32 at the half.
In the second half Furman slowly extended its lead back to double digits, but Tulane never backed down. The Wave battled to pull with five points on four separated occasions throughout the second half, however, that would be as close as Tulane would get as the Green Wave ultimately fell 67-75 on the road.
Up next, the Tulane returns to Uptowns to square off with Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, November 19. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Wildcats is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
