
No. 25 Swimming & Diving Travels to Cleveland for the Magnus Cup This Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane swimming & diving team gets back in the pool this week as the program travels to Cleveland, Ohio to take part in the Magnus Cup inside Busbey Natatorium from November 21-23. The live stats for the meet can be followed on Meet Mobile, which is a subscription phone-only live stat app. The preliminaries each day start at 8 a.m. (CT), with diving at 12 p.m. (CT) and the finals at 5 p.m. (CT)
The field of competing teams includes Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo, Tulane, Ashland, Canisius, Cleveland State, IUP, LeMoyne, Niagara, St. Bonaventure, Youngstown State, Valparaiso and Xavier.

Following a successful first few weeks of the season, including a strong weekend in Houston from Nov. 1-2, the Tulane swim & diving team are ranked No. 25 nationally by SwimCloud.
The program amassed 759.24 points overall in the poll, are also the top ranked Division I Mid-Major program in the country and are currently rank No. 1 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC).
In the team's last meet against the University of Houston and LSU on Nov. 2, Tulane totaled 35 season bests, 13 NIC bonus cuts, 14 top-10 school marks, a school record and nine top-three finishes at the meet.
The meet was highlighted for the Green Wave by Catherine Russo setting the school record in the 50 free with a time of 22.73. The mark also is an NIC bonus cut, a US Open Water qualifier and is the top mark in the event in the AAC this season.
Maya Wilson swan a 49.53 in the 100 free to place second overall in the event and also puts her second in the school history. The mark also was an NIC bonus cut, a US Open Water qualifier and is No. 2 in the AAC. Wilson also placed second in the 200 free with a 1:47.67. That time ranks her fourth in school history and is No. 1 in the AAC plus is an NIC bonus cut.
Gwen Shahboz earned second in the 200 breast with a 2:13.84. Her time ranks her No. 3 in school history while also being an NIC bonus cut, a US Open Water qualifier and is the top mark in the AAC in the event. Shahboz also finished as the runner-up in the 400 IM with a 4:19.03. The mark is No. 5 in school history while also being an NIC bonus cut and ranks her No. 1 in the AAC.
Rafaela Sumida earned third in the 1000 free with a 10:04.05. The mark was an NIC bonus cut, No. 4 in school history and ranks her No. 1 in the AAC this season. Sumida also finished third in the 500 free with a 4:51.61. The time is an NIC bonus cut, No. 8 in school history and No. 1 in the AAC this season.
Andrea Zeebe earned third in the 400 IM with a 4:19.38. The mark was an NIC bonus cut and ranks her No. 2 in the AAC this season.
The 400 free relay team of Lise Coetzee, Russo, Olcaytu Hatipoglu and Wilson took third in their event with a 3:23.31. The time ranks the group No. 6 in school history and No. 1 in the AAC while also being an NIC bonus cut.
Shahboz was named the AAC's Swimmer of the Week after leading the program in both dual meets in Houston. She contributed the most points for the Green Wave over that weekend in dual meets against Rice, Houston and LSU. She swam four lifetime bests and two season bests as well as accumulating three NIC bonus cuts and a US Open cut. In a heavy individual line up against Rice, she came away with wins in the 200 breast and 200 IM, while cruising to a 3rd place in the 200 back. Her time of 2:04.09 in the 200 IM is the fastest in the AAC by almost a second over teammate Andrea Zeebe. The 200 back in 2:04.01 is currently the fourth fastest in the AAC.
She is the third Tulane swimmer to be honored as the AAC's Swimmer of the Week this season following Catherine Russo (Oct. 1) and Andrea Zeebe (Oct. 22). Overall, Shahboz is the sixth Tulane swimmer to be named the AAC's Swimmer of the Week (Andrea Zeebe – Oct. 22, 2024; Catherine Russo – Oct. 1, 2024; Victoria Raymond – Oct. 10, 2023; Kate McDonald – Dec. 15, 2020 and Feb. 12, 2019 and Paris Zhang – Jan. 20, 2018). Her being named makes her the 13th different individual that has been named a conference swimmer of the week in the program's history along with Andrea Zeebe (2024 – AAC), Catherine Russo (2024 – AAC), Victoria Raymond (2023 - AAC), Kate McDonald (2020 & 2019 - AAC), Paris Zhang (2018 - AAC), Elizabeth Cook (2015 – CUSA), Mia Schachter (2014 – CUSA), Kayla Alf-Huynh (2011 x 2 – CUSA), Samantha Berdine (2005 – CUSA), Linda McEachrane (2004 – CUSA), Sarah Dicharry (2004 – CUSA) and Leslie Christian (2004 – CUSA).

Head Coach Amanda Caldwell is in her third year leading the program. The team is coming off an outstanding 2023-24 season that resulted in 64 lifetime bests, 31 all-time top-10 school marks, four school records, an AAC individual title, an AAC Freshman of the Year Award, 11 National Invite Championship Qualifiers, a Zone Diver Qualifier and an NCAA qualifier.
The program returns 12 swimmers & divers from last season in Anna Behrman, Emma Brady, Rachel Casebolt, Taylor Cekay, Reese Dunkenberger, Paula Gaya Bisquerra, Olcaytu Hatipoglu, Paige McKenzie Sydney Mullin, Gwen Shahboz, Ece Tanriverdi and Andrea Zeebe. The squad also is welcoming in 11 newcomers in Layla Allen, Lise Coetzee, Charley Floyd, Phoebe Johnson, Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou, Catherine Russo, Eva Shawver, Rafaela Sumida, Lily Von Herbulis, Kelsey Weddington and Maya Wilson.
Following the competition in Cleveland, Tulane will next be in action from Dec. 4-7 in Greensboro, North Carolina as the team's qualifiers will compete at the US Open. Tulane will next be at home on Jan. 25, 2025 for a dual meet against Little Rock. The team wraps up the home schedule and regular season by hosting West Florida on Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. The 2025 AAC Swimming Championship will be held from Feb. 19-22 in Dallas, Texas at SMU.
