Green Wave Opens Cancun Challenge Versus Wyoming Tuesday

CANCUN, Mexico – Tulane University men's basketball will look to bounce back into the win column Tuesday night as it begins the Cancun Challenge against Wyoming at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. The Green Wave will make its first appearance in the Cancun Challenge in program history competing in the Riviera Division.

The game between the Wave and the Cowboys is set to tipoff at 5 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the fourth all-time regular season meeting between Tulane and Wyoming with the Green Wave leading the series 2-1. The Wave is 1-1 against the Cowboys in neutral site contests with a win in the latest meeting 52-38 in Memphis.

In its last time out, despite erasing a 12-point deficit in the final two minutes to force overtime Tulane ultimately lost to New Orleans 87-93 at home Friday, November 22. Four players scored in double figures for the Green Wave with Kaleb Banks leading the way with 20 points including three clutch free throws to force overtime. Freshman Kam Williams followed with career-highs in points and steals scoring 19 points and swiping four steals. Asher Woods added 17 points for the Wave off the bench while Rowan Brumbaugh tallied 13.

Through November 23 the Green Wave has excelled in a pair of defensive categories. So far this season the Wave ranks in the top 25 nationally in field goal percentage defense (10th) and in blocks (21st). Tulane also leads the American Athletic Conference in those categories holding its opponents to 34.9 percent shooting from the floor and swatting 6.2 blocks per game.

Wyoming enters the matchup with a 4-1 record after defeating Southeastern Louisiana 64-61 at home on November 22. The Cowboys are led by a trio averaging double figures in scoring. Obi Agbim paces the Cowboys with 17.4 points per game while shooting 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. Kobe Newton follows with 12.3 points per game while Jordan Nesbitt adds 11.0.

The Cowboys have been aggressive on the glass so far this season ranking 12th nationally in rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game. Wyoming also rates 19th in the country in rebound margin.

Following the game against the Cowboys, the Green Wave will face either Belmont or Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, November 27. With a win against Wyoming Tulane will play at 7:30 p.m. CT or 5 p.m. with a loss.
