
Women’s Basketball Downed by Temple, 69-52

PHILADELPHIA – Amira Mabry put up her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds in a 67-50 loss by the Tulane women's basketball team (10-15, 3-11 AAC) to Temple (15-10, 9-4 AAC) on Monday evening at the Liacouras Center. The program has now lost its last four games.
Mabry shot 7-for-12 from the field in scoring her 18 points. Her 13 rebounds were a career high. Irina Parau totaled nine points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Kyren Whittington also scored nine points. Marta Galic returned to the lineup and scored seven points and four rebounds. Hannah Pratt chipped in with seven points. Joy Madison-Key had two points and four assists. Kaylah Rainey led the team with five assists. She also had a steal. Chiara Grattini handed out an assist.
Temple was led by 16 points from Aleah Nelson. She was one of four players that was in double figures for the Owls.
Tulane's largest lead was six points late in the first quarter. The game featured just two lead changes and four tied scores as Temple led by much of the contest. The Green Wave shot 34.5 percent from the field (20-for-58), 23.1 percent from three-point range (3-for-13) and were 100 percent from the line (9-for-9)
Temple's largest lead was 17 points last in the fourth quarter. Temple led 20-8 in points off turnovers, 30-26 in points in the paint and 15-6 in fast break points. The Owls shot 39.3 percent from the field (24-for-61), 40 percent from three-point range (6-for-15) and 75 percent from the line (15-for-20).
Tulane came out strong and outscored the Owls 16-12 after the first quarter. Temple fought back with a strong second quarter in outscoring the Green Wave, 25-14, to take the 37-29 lead into the half. Tulane fought to get back in the game in the third in outscoring the Owls, 17-15, to head to the fourth down 52-46. The Owls finished the game on a 17-6 run in the fourth quarter to win this won 69-52.
Next, Tulane returns home to host Memphis on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at Devlin Fieldhouse. The day will be Senior Day for Tulane's four seniors in Marta Galic, Chiara Grattini, McKenzi Carter and Irina Parau.
Notables:
The loss dropped Tulane to 8-9 all-time against Temple…The double-double was the second of the season for Amira Mabry and the third double-double of the season for any Tulane player…Mabry has now scored in double figures in 11 straight games.
