Amira Mabry led the team with her 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season and the third by a Tulane player this year. The game was the fifth time that Mabry has led the team in scoring and the 10th time that she has been the rebounding leader. Mabry has now scored in double figures in 11 straight games. Kaylah Rainey led the team in assists for the 13th time with five helpers against Temple.
Memphis is coached by Alex Simmons. Simmons is in her first year in charge of the program after previously working and leading the program at Gardner-Webb. The Tigers have won three of their last four games including a 79-74 victory over Rice on Tuesday. Madison Griggs leads the attack with her average of 16.6 points. Alasia Smith is the leading rebounder at 9.2 per game. She also leads the team with 54 steals and 33 blocks while picking up 10.0 points a contest. Kai Carter is totaling 9.6 points per game.
Memphis leads the all-time series with Tulane 31-26. The first game of the series was a 75-62 Tigers victory in 1979. Memphis defeated Tulane by an 80-79 count in overtime earlier this month. Kyren Whittington scored a career-high 33 points for the Green Wave in the loss. Tulane has won four of the last seven games with the Tigers.
The Green Wave, under the leadership of Coach Stockton, were picked for sixth in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) this season. The team went 18-14 last year and had a mark of 7-9 in AAC play. Coach Stockton is in her 30th year at the helm of Tulane. The program returns eight players from last season's roster for the 2023-24 season including 2023 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team selection Kyren Whittington. The Green Wave have added two freshmen, center Lily Ba and point guard Joy Madison-Key, along with graduate transfer forward Hannah Pratt and graduate transfer guard Kaylah Rainey. Last season, Tulane was selected for a WNIT post season appearance for the third consecutive year. Coach Stockton also became the all-time winningest women's basketball coach in the state of Louisiana during the campaign and was elected to the CUSA Hall of Fame over the summer. The team's top returner scorers from last season are Kyren Whittington and Marta Galic. Both averaged 11.9 points per game. Galic also led the team in rebounding a year ago with her average of 6.7 rebounds a game.
