Wave Welcomes Blazers for Sunday Bout
Feb 24, 2024 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball (13-12, 4-9) will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Sunday as it hosts the UAB Blazers (17-9, 9-4) in Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave has not lost four consecutive games since the 2020-21 season.
Â
The game between the Green Wave and the Blazers is set to tipoff at 3 p.m. on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
Â
This marks the 39th all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Blazers with Tulane trailing in the series 13-25. Tulane dropped the first matchup against UAB this season 83-69 in Birmingham on January 17. The Wave holds a 7-10 record at home against the Blazers, but UAB has won the last six meetings in Uptown. The last time Tulane beat UAB came on January 19, 2005, by a final score of 76-73 in overtime.
Â
In its last time out, Tulane lost its third game in a row after falling 81-67 at East Carolina on Sunday marking the second three-game losing streak of the season for the Wave. The Green Wave trailed by just five points at the half after a back-and-forth opening frame, but a 16-1 second half run by the Pirates put Tulane in a deficit it was unable to overcome down the stretch. Jaylen Forbes led the Wave with 21 points including five made threes for his seventh 20-point game of the season.
Â
So far this season in home games the Green Wave holds a 10-4 overall record including a 3-3 mark in conference play. Tulane is averaging 88.7 points on 50.6 percent shooting while allowing opponents to score 76.8 points per game.
Â
UAB enters the matchup off a home loss to Rice 94-71 on Wednesday. The Blazers hold a 17-9 overall record and an 9-4 mark in league play.
Â
The charity stripe is a key to success for UAB as the Blazers lead the American Athletic Conference in free throw percentage and rank 10th nationally in free throws made per game with 18.0. Five players average double figures in scoring for UAB led by Yaxel Lendeborg who averages a double-double with 13.2 points and 10.0 boards per game.
Â
Following the showdown with UAB, the Green Wave will host North Texas on Wednesday, February 28. The game between Tulane and the Mean Green is set to tipoff at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
