Tulane Opens AAC Championship Against UTSA Thursday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's tennis (7-14) will open the 2024 American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championship as the 10 seed against the seven seed No. 73 UTSA (10-9) on Thursday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Green Wave and the Roadrunners are set to take the court at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at 9 a.m.
The Wave has won the last four matchups against UTSA and holds a 4-1 record all-time against the Roadrunners. The last time Tulane faced UTSA the Green Wave won with a 4-0 sweep at home in 2021.
Tulane is 7-6 overall in the AAC tournament since joining the league in 2015. The Wave has reached the championship twice winning the title in 2018 in Dallas and finishing as the runner-up last season in Orlando.
Entering the AAC tournament the Green Wave is led the 73rd-ranked duo in the nation Alex Bancila and Luc Hoeijmans with a 15-10 record in doubles competition. Bancila also paces Tulane in singles action leading the team with 17 overall singles victories while Fynn Kuenkler leads the way this spring with nine singles wins.
With a victory over UTSA, Tulane will advance to the quarterfinals to play the two seed SMU at 10 a.m. on Friday.
