Memphis Takes Series over Tulane
May 5, 2024 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – The Memphis baseball team saw a 5-0 lead evaporate down the stretch but ultimately escaped Uptown with a 7-5, 10-inning win over host Tulane Sunday afternoon on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Â
The win gave the Tigers the series victory and improved the team's record to 21-27 overall and 8-13 in the American Athletic Conference. The Green Wave dropped to 26-22 and 10-11 in the league.
Â
Memphis right fielder Pierre Seals crushed a two-run homer, his 10th of the season, in the top of the 10th for the go-ahead runs. Second baseman Daunte Stuart (3-for-5, 2 runs scored) provided the team's fifth run with a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning.
Â
Tulane got solo homers from left fielder Jackson Linn (fifth inning) and catcher Colin Tuft (eighth), both of whom registered their eighth round-trippers of 2024. Second baseman Connor Rasmussen tied center fielder Teo Banks for the team lead with his 12th double of the season in the third inning. Right fielder Gavin Schulz scored twice.
Â
Seals' heroics made a winner of reliever Brayden Sanders (2-3), who issued just one walk with a strikeout in the ninth and 10th frames.Â
Â
The Seals homer came off Tulane reliever Jacob Moore, who fell to 3-3 on the season.Â
Â
The Tuft homer trimmed the deficit to one (5-4) and Tulane tied the game in the ninth when Schulz scored on a ground ball double play hit by designated hitter Michael Lombardi. Tuft then popped out to short and the game proceeded to the 10th.
Â
Banks has now reached base in 18th consecutive games.
Â
Tulane next takes the diamond at UNO on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
