Cross Country to Kick Off 2024 Season at Battle of New Orleans
Aug 29, 2024 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane cross country program kicks off its 2024 season Friday night with the team heading down the road to Lake Oaks Park for the Battle of New Orleans.
The women's 4k is set to take off at 5:15 p.m., while the men's 5k will follow at 5:45 p.m. Tulane will co-host the meet with the UNO Privateers, while Nicholls, Southern, SELU, Dillard, Loyola NO, Xavier, and Lamar make up the rest of the field.
Expectations are high as the Olive and Blue swept last season's 2023 UNO XC Opener. Reigning champion and AAC runner of the year Gemma Rebollo will return for her senior season with the Wave.
Both the Green Wave men and women enter the meet ranked third in the South Central Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Twenty runners are scheduled to race tomorrow for both the Tulane men and women. Jack Jennings, Illia Kunin, and Ryan Adkins will look to lead the men's squad after being top performers for the Wave last season, while Lily Bell, Danna Diaz and Paula Vaquera are expected to be contenders in the leading pack alongside Rebollo.
