Green Wave Sweeps Portland State at SDSU Invite

SAN DIEGO – Tulane Volleyball shut out Portland State during its opening match at the San Diego State Invitational, securing a promising start to the weekend.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with several lead changes characterizing the final points of the game. Tulane fought back against Portland's match point, evening the score out and coming back to win it 28-26.
Sami Jacobs led the team in kills during the first set, with four on six total attempts. Sabrina Skyers followed with three kills on seven attempts. Skyers also had a triumphant second set, hitting .500 from five kills on 10 attempts.
Tulane then came out on top during the second set, efficient with their hits and attacks. The defense kept up good work to keep Portland from ending with the lead. The Green Wave ended the set with a score of 25-23. Jacobs administered 13 digs, while Agata Beksha hit .412 with 9 kills. Beksha kept up her momentum in set three, delivering 12 kills.
By the third set, the Green Wave truly hit their stride. A nine-point lead at 20-11 encapsulated Tulane's performance during their third test against the Vikings, and they ended the game with a final point tally of 25-19.
Both Ilayda Demirtas and Jordan White put up six block assists, the most of any other player throughout the game. White also hit .556, landing six kills from nine attempts, while Jacobs added another 16 digs to her total. Zoe Rachow recorded 17 assists during the third set, while Katherine Crosley provided 21.
UP NEXT
Tulane will take on DePaul University at 5:00 p.m. during their second tournament day, Friday, Sept. 6. On Saturday, the Green Wave will take on the San Diego State Aztecs at 5:00 p.m.
