Late Surge Huge in Wednesday Home Win for Wave

POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane's Sherese Pittman scored 20 points, including eight of the team's last 10, as the host Green Wave withstood a stout comeback effort by visiting North Texas to emerge with a 65-62 victory Wednesday evening at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Olive and Blue improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Mean Green dropped to 11-5 and 3-1 in the league.
Pittman also led the team with nine rebounds and Kyren Whittington recorded 15 points and a game-high six assists. Dyllan Hanna had a fantastic game off the bench with eight points, seven rebounds, five blocks and four steals in 32 minutes.
North Texas was led by 23 points from Jaaucklyn Moore. She was joined in double digits by Ereauna Hardaway and Desiree Wooten, who had 10 apiece. Aniyah Johnson ripped down a game-high 14 rebounds and led a commanding team edge on the glass for the visitors (50-33).
The Green Wave had a fantastic start to the game, holding the Mean Green to just six second quarter points en route to a 40-22 halftime lead.
North Texas, though, came roaring back and outscored Tulane 24-8 in the third period. The Mean Green continued its run in the final stanza and took a five-point advantage (60-55) on a Moore three-point play with 4:13 left.
The Green Wave answered right back though and salted away the contest with a 10-2 run of its own. Tulane also forced eight North Texas misses in the Mean Green's final nine field goal attempts.
The visitors had one final attempt to tie the game but Pittman grabbed a Moore miss from the perimeter as the clock expired.
Tulane did a masterful job limited the Mean Green's trips to the free throw line. North Texas came into the game ninth nationally, averaging 23 free throw attempts per contest. It was limited to just seven on Wednesday.
The Green Wave also forced 18 NT turnovers and turned those miscues into 28 points.
Tulane will be back in action Saturday at East Carolina at 2 p.m. ET/1 CT. The Pirates (8-7, 0-3) were idle on Wednesday.
