
Road Trifecta at Stake for Tulane on Saturday

GREENVILLE, NC - The Tulane women's basketball team (10-5 overall, 3-1 American Athletic Conference) will be in search of its third consecutive league road win when it faces East Carolina (8-7, 0-3) at 2 p.m. ET/1 CT in Greenville on Saturday.
The Pirates, while still looking for their first taste of conference success, pace the AAC in offensive rebounds per game (15.9), steals (10.5) and turnovers forced (20.9). Amira Joyner stands second individually in double-doubles (six) and rebounds per game (8.9).

Tulane's Sherese Pittman scored 20 points, including eight of the team's last 10, as the host Green Wave withstood a stout comeback effort by visiting North Texas to emerge with a 65-62 victory Wednesday evening at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

The Olive and Blue improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Mean Green dropped to 11-5 and 3-1 in the league.

Pittman also led the team with nine rebounds and Kyren Whittington recorded 15 points and a game-high six assists. Dyllan Hanna had a fantastic game off the bench with eight points, seven rebounds, five blocks and four steals in 32 minutes.Â

North Texas was led by 23 points from Jaaucklyn Moore. She was joined in double digits by Ereauna Hardaway and Desiree Wooten, who had 10 apiece. Aniyah Johnson ripped down a game-high 14 rebounds and led a commanding team edge on the glass for the visitors (50-33).

The Green Wave had a fantastic start to the game, holding the Mean Green to just six second quarter points en route to a 40-22 halftime lead.Â

North Texas, though, came roaring back and outscored Tulane 24-8 in the third period. The Mean Green continued its run in the final stanza and took a five-point advantage (60-55) on a Moore three-point play with 4:13 left.Â

The Green Wave answered right back though and salted away the contest with a 10-2 run of its own. Tulane also forced eight North Texas misses in the Mean Green's final nine field goal attempts.

The visitors had one final attempt to tie the game but Pittman grabbed a Moore miss from the perimeter as the clock expired.

Tulane did a masterful job limited the Mean Green's trips to the free throw line. North Texas came into the game ninth nationally, averaging 23 free throw attempts per contest. It was limited to just seven on Wednesday.

The Green Wave also forced 18 NT turnovers and turned those miscues into 28 points.

THROUGH FIVE:Â The Green Wave will have its best five-game AAC start since 2019-20 (6-0) should it win Saturday.

CONFERENCE ROAD OPENERS:Â The Green Wave picked up wins (91-71 at FAU, 79-58 at Charlotte) in its first two road conference games. The last time Tulane won its first three AAC road games in any season was December 28, 2014 at Cincinnati (60-50), January 7, 2015 at East Carolina (76-63) and January 13, 2015 at UCF (71-70).

HANNA AND KEENAN:Â With her five-block effort against North Texas on Wednesday, Dyllan Hanna now leads the conference with 1.83 rejections per game. Victoria Keenan paces the league (and is eighth nationally) with a 46.3 percent clip from the perimeter. She is also 14th in the country with 2.93 3-pointers per contest and 16th with 44 total triples on the year.
