Feb 7, 2025 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball will aim to secure its third-straight win on Saturday when it takes the floor on the road at North Texas. The battle between the Green Wave and the Mean Green will feature the top two defenses in the American Athletic Conference as the two teams rank first and second in scoring defense in the league.
Â
The matchup between the Wave and the Mean Green is set to tipoff at 2 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
Â
This marks the sixth all-time meeting between Tulane and North Texas with the Green Wave trailing the series 2-3. The Mean Green swept all three matchups against the Wave last season including a 56-70 loss for the Green Wave in Denton, Texas, on March 14, 2024. Tulane holds a 1-1 mark against North Texas on the road with the lone victory coming in the first meeting of the series on January 11, 2014, by a final score of 73-62.
Â
In its last time out, Tulane scored the final 10 points of the contest to complete a 61-60 come from behind victory on the road over UTSA on Wednesday. Redshirt sophomore Rowan Brumbaugh sank two free throws with 2.5 second left to put the Green Wave on top and sweep the season series with the Roadrunners. Asher Woods led the Wave offensively with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting while Brumbaugh followed with 13 points including 11-of-11 shooting from the free throw line.
Â
The Green Wave holds a 3-4 record in true road games this season including a 3-2 mark against league competition. Experience has been crucial for Tulane on the road as the top four scorers for the Wave away from home are Kaleb Banks at 13.6 points, Brumbaugh with 13.0, Woods with 12.0, and Gregg Glenn III with 10.3.
Â
North Texas enters the matchup on a two-game losing streak after falling 64-61 at UAB on Monday, February 3. With the loss the Mean Green dropped to 16-6 overall 7-3 mark in AAC play.
Â
UNT hangs its hat on the defensive end of the floor leading The American and ranking third nationally in scoring defense holding opponents to 59.1 points per game. Offensively, the duo of Atin Wright and Brenen Lorient lead the attack for the Mean Green. Wright paces the team with 13.5 points per game while Lorient follows averaging 12.5 points.
