Green Wave Sweeps Colonels

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women's tennis rolled past in-state foe Nicholls for a 7-0 victory at City Park Tennis Center on Wednesday. The Green Wave started strong in doubles action and kept the momentum rolling in singles to earn its fourth sweep of the season.

With the win, the Wave improved to 8-6 overall including 6-2 at home so far this season. Meanwhile, the Colonels dropped to 2-7 on the season including 0-3 on the road.

The pairing of Summer Chandler and Micah Pierce got the winning started for Tulane winning 6-3 on court two of doubles. Shortly after Campbell Ricci and Leigh Van Zyl earned their seventh doubles win of the season with a 6-3 win on court one to secure the doubles point for the Green Wave.

The Wave continued to roll against the Colonels in singles as Pierce quickly put Tulane up 2-0 in the match winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) on court five. Her doubles partner, Chandler, was quick to follow with another victory in two sets (6-3, 6-1) on court two. Van Zyl clinched the match win for the Green Wave as she won on court three 6-2, 6-3.
Tulane was not done after clinching the win over Nicholls. Ricci added another point for the Wave winning in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) on court one followed by a two-set (6-0, 7-5) win by Brooke Theis on court six. Jaiyun Zhu put the finishing touch on the 7-0 sweep for the Green Wave as she picked up the victory on court four in two sets 77-63, 6-4.
The Wave will be back in action this weekend for a pair of matches in Denton, Texas, this weekend. Tulane will square off with UAB for a neutral site match on Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by a road showdown against North Texas on Sunday at 10 a.m.
