Tulane Drops Tight Match Against UAB

DENTON, Texas – Tulane women's tennis came up short in its first match of the weekend falling 4-3 in a neutral site matchup against UAB at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas. After claiming an early lead, the match came down to the third and final set on court five where the Blazers managed to hold off the Green Wave to win the match.
With the loss, the Wave dropped to 9-7 overall including 1-4 against American Athletic Conference opponents this season. Meanwhile, the Blazers improved to 12-6 on the season and 1-1 against league foes.
The Green Wave got off to a strong start against the Blazers in doubles action. The duo of Campbell Ricci and Leigh Van Zyl put Tulane on the board with their eighth doubles victory of the season with a 6-1 win on court one. The Wave then took the lead in the match after Summer Chandler and Micah Pierce clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court two.
Ricci kept the momentum on the side of Tulane as singles play started by earning a two-set win on court one to put the Green Wave up 2-0. However, UAB quickly answered to take the lead 3-2 after winning in straight sets on courts two, three, and four.
Th Wave battled back to tie the match at 3-3 thanks to a hard-fought three-set victory by Natalia Fantini on court six. Over on court five Micah Pierce grinded to force a third set on court five that eventually went to a tie break. Unfortunately, the Blazers secured the tiebreaker to give Tulane the 4-3 loss.
Up next, the Wave will stay in Denton, Texas, for a road showdown against North Texas on Sunday at 10 a.m.
