Tulane Falls to No. 45 UC Santa Barbara to Open Ed Collins Classic

SAN DIEGO – Tulane men's tennis dropped its first match of the Ed Collins Classic 4-0 to No. 45 UC Santa Barbara on Friday at the Aztec Tennis Center of San Diego State.
With the loss the Green Wave dropped to 2-7 overall while the Gauchos improved to 9-2 on the season.
Tulane battled in double competition to start the match as the duo of Asaf Friedler and Vincent Vohl took the 35th-ranked doubles pair of Dominique Rolland and Gianluca to a near stalemate trailing 6-5 when the doubles point was decided. The Wave dropped the first match in double on court two followed by the deciding point on court three going to the Gauchos.
Moving into singles Hady El Kordy and Asaf Friedler each won their first set foor the Green Wave on courts three and four, respectively. However, those would be the only sets to fall the way of the Wave in singles as UCSB secured two-set wins on courts one, two, and six to win the match 4-0.
The Green Wave will be back in action in the consolation bracket of the Ed Collins Classic Saturday against San Diego State at 12 p.m. CT. Tulane holds a 2-2 record against the Aztecs including a 4-2 loss last season on March 16, 2024. The last time the Wave beat San Diego State was a 4-0 sweep on March 18, 2023.
