Tulane Falls to No. 34 Auburn to Close Regular Season

NEW ORLEANS – In the final regular season match of the year for Tulane men's tennis the Green Wave faltered to the 34th-ranked Auburn Tigers 4-3 at City Park Tennis Center on Friday.
With the loss the Wave finish the regular season with a 5-16 record overall and a 3-6 mark at home. Meanwhile, the 34th-ranked Tigers improved to 17-9 on the year.
The Green Wave got off to a solid start against the Tigers winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 advantage. Asaf Friedler and AJ Mercer were the first duo to pick up a win for the Wave as they claimed court two 6-4. Shortly after the pairing of Alec Gaudin and Charlie Burdell secured the doubles point for Tulane winning 6-4 on court three.
Tulane worked hard to maintain the momentum in singles play as Luka Petrovic, Gaudin, and Friedler each won the first set on their court. However, the Tigers made a push on courts two, four, and six to claim the lead 3-1 with straight-set victories. In a pivotal third set on court three Auburn managed to come from behind to take the point and secure the match victory.
After the match was decided the Green Wave picked up points from Petrovic on court one and Friedler on court five who each earned three-set victories to make it a 4-3 loss for Tulane.
Up next, Tulane will head to Memphis for the American Athletic Conference Championship which begins Thursday, April 17. The tournament will be played at Leftwich Tennis Center and run through Sunday, April 20.
