Green Wave on the Road for Split Weekend

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane track and field team is set to compete in a pair of meets on the road this week from Thursday to Saturday. The Green Wave will have a group competing at 115th running of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, beginning on Thursday while another crew for the Wave will start competition in the Knights Invitational on Friday in Orlando, Florida.
DRAKE RELAYS
Date: Thursday-Saturday, April 24-26

The Relays will open on Thursday with the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon. Events for those competitions will begin with the women's heptathlon long jump at 10:15 a.m. followed by the men's decathlon 110m hurdles at 10:30 a.m. Action on the track will continues Thursday with the distance carnival beginning with the women's and men's 4x800m relays at 4:30 p.m. before concluding the day with the women's and men's 10000m at 8:29 p.m.
Day two from Drake Stadium will begin with field events starting with the women's triple jump at 10 a.m. The Friday field events will finish at 1:45 p.m. with the men's discus and the women's shot put. Meanwhile, over on the track action will open with the 4x100m prelims for women at 9:23 a.m. and men at 9:37 a.m. Friday night at the Drake Relays will finish with the 4x200m finals for women and men at 7:36 and 7:48 p.m.
On Saturday competition will start with the distance medley for men and women with the first race beginning at 9:10 a.m. Track events will continue the remainder of the day until the men's and women's 4x400m relays conclude the meet at 4:30 p.m. Field events will also finish on Saturday as the first competitions of the day will begin at 10 a.m. and the final events will take place at 1:45-50 p.m. The men's hammer throw and long jump will kick off the field event Saturday while the women's hammer throw and men's javelin will wrap up competition on the field.
KNIGHTS INVITATIONAL
Date: Friday-Saturday, April 25-26

The meet will start with field events on Friday beginning with the women's hammer throw at 9:30 a.m. CT. Track events will start at 4 p.m. CT on Friday with the women's 400m hurdles before action concludes on the first day with the men's 10,000m final at 8:05 p.m. CT.
On Saturday competition will open with the remaining men's and women's field events at 9 a.m. CT including discus, high jump, and triple jump. The second day of track events will start at 10 a.m. CT with the men's 110m hurdles and conclude with the men's 4x400m relay at 3:15 p.m.
LAST OUTING
Janae Dean and Bernard Cheruiyot led the way for the Green Wave at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, from April 16-18. Dean earned American Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Week after she broke her own Tulane record in the 800 meters crossing the finish line at 2:03.73 to best her previous time of 2:04.30 at the Raleigh Relays earlier this spring on March 29.
Cheruiyot also posted a record-breaking performance for the Wave as he finished second in the 5000 meters and snapped the Tulane record in the process crossing the finish line at 13:36.23 besting the previous record by 10 seconds (Illia Kunin – 13:46.94 – March 28, 2024).
UP NEXT
Tulane will split for a pair of meets for its final week of competition in the regular season. The Green Wave will send a group to Jacksonville, Florida, for the East Coast Relays hosted by North Florida and another crew will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for the LSU Invitational. Both meets will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.
