
Kimutai Highlights Weekend for Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – Blezzin Kimutai highlighted the weekend of action for Tulane track & field as the Green Wave competed at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Knights Invitational in Orlando, Florida. Kimutai became the first champion for the Wave at the Drake Relays as she smashed the program record to win the 10,000 meters.
On Thursday, the freshman posted a time of 34:06.66 in the event to finish in first place by more than 40 seconds and best the previous Tulane record by 46.35 seconds. Aubrey Phillips held the previous mark running the 10,000 meters in 34:53.01 on April 5, 2008.
The Green Wave also picked up six more top-10 finishes on Thursday at the Drake Relays. Reese Ragland got the day started for Tulane landing fourth in the 1500 meters crossing the finish line at 4:25.52.
Roman Schrader was the next to find his way into the top 10 as he finished ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.95.
In the women's 3000 meters steeplechase Lily Porth and Alex Sharp claimed fourth and fifth for the Wave. Porth posted the third best time in program history in the event finishing at 10:32.56 while Sharp followed with the fourth best performance at Tulane with a time of 10:33.79.
Dorcas Naibei recorded the third best time in Wave history in the 5000 meters as she ran a 16:22.57 to finish fifth in the event. Meanwhile, in the men's 5000 meters Tucker Poshard crossed the line at 14:46.04 to land 10th.
On Friday in Des Moines, Iowa, Janae Dean finished third (2:05.80) and Tharushi Karunarathna landed sixth (2:15.09) in the 800 meters. On the men's side Zander Dunbar crossed the line in fifth in the 800 meters at 1:50.52.
Meanwhile, at the Knights Invitational on Friday the Green Wave recorded four personal bests including a first-place finish by Egbe Ndip-Agbor to highlight the day. Ndip-Agbor won the 200 meters by running a 23.64 which marked the sixth best time in program history. Robyn Larkan also posted a personal best in the 200 meters as she crossed the finish line at 25.38.
Over in the men's 200 meters Lee Harris and Alex Montoro both notched personal bests as Harris ran a 21.36, which marked the seventh best time at Tulane, and Montoro ran a 22.64.
On Saturday, Tulane added four more personal records at the Knights Invitational. In the 400 meters Alex Montoro posted a time of 49.84 and Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas crossed with a time of 58.69.
Ndip-Agbor posted her second personal best of the weekend as she finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.62 which tied for the fourth best performance in program history.
In the field events in Orlando Alyssa Dismuke recorded her personal best in the discus. She reached 39.02 meters on her best throw to take fourth in the event.
Up next, Tulane will split for a pair of meets for its final week of competition in the regular season. The Green Wave will send a group to Jacksonville, Florida, for the East Coast Relays hosted by North Florida and another crew will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for the LSU Invitational. Both meets will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.
