
Eight Green Wave Athletes Qualify for NCAA East First Round

NEW ORLEANS – Eight athletes for Tulane's outdoor track & field program qualified to compete at next week's East First Round in Jacksonville, Florida, from May 28-31 the NCAA announced Thursday. The Green Wave will be represented in 11 different events by the eight athletes.
Competing for the Wave next week will be Kaia Todd (Triple Jump), Egbe Ndip-Agbor (200m), Janae Dean (800m), Blezzin Kimutai (10,000m & 5000m), Bernard Cheruiyot (10,000m & 5000m), Illia Kunin (1500m), Silas Kiptanui (3000m Steeplechase & 5000m), and Jack Jennings (10,000m). The top 12 times in each of the two regions (East & West) advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, from June 11-14.
Cheruiyot, Jennings, and Kunin will be the first to hit the track for Tulane at the East First Round on Wednesday, May 28, from Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium. Kunin will line up for the first round of the 1500m at 5:30 p.m. CT. Wrapping up the first day of competition at North Florida will be Cheruiyot and Jennings in the semifinals of the 10,000m at 8:10 p.m.
On Thursday, May 29, the women's competition will get started as Dean, Kimutai, and Ndip-Agbor will race for the Green Wave. Dean will be the first on the track for Tulane in the first round of the 800m at 6:50 p.m. CT followed by Ndip-Agbor in the first round of the 200m at 7:45 p.m. CT. Kimutai will conclude the day in the 10,000m semifinals at 8:10 p.m. CT.
Kiptanui will make his debut at the East First Round on Friday, May 30, as he will compete in the 3000m Steeplechase quarterfinals at 4:40 p.m. CT and the 5000m semifinals at 7:10 p.m. CT. Cheruiyot will also join Kiptanui on the track for the 5000m semifinals. If he qualifies in the first round on Wednesday, Kunin will return to the track for the 1500m quarterfinals at 4:15 p.m. CT on Friday.
Dean and Ndip-Agbor will have the opportunity to compete again on Saturday, May 31, if they advance to the quarterfinals for the 800m and 200m. Those races will be held at 6:05 p.m. CT for the 800m and 6:50 p.m. CT for the 200m. Kimutai will also return to the track for the second time as she will compete in the 5000m semifinals at 7:10 p.m. CT.
In the field events on Saturday, Todd will make her first appearance for the Wave. She will compete in the first round of the triple jump beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT.
