NEW ORLEANSย โย Tulane volleyball returns to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse this week to host the Pelican Invitational from Thursday to Saturday, September 18-20, alongside the University of New Orleans. The Green Wave will hold four total matches in Uptown including matchups against New Orleans, Providence, and Alabama State.

The Wave enters the tournament with a 5-3 record this season including a 3-0 mark so far at home. Tulane has been led by the duo of Avery Burks and Sabrina Skyers through the first eight matches of the season. The pair has earned back-to-back all-tournament team honors in the Green Wave Classic and the Jaguar Invitational.

In its first match of the Pelican Invitational the Green Wave will face crosstown foe UNO on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. This marks the 89th meeting between Tulane and the Privateers with the Wave holding a 65-23 advantage in the series including victories in each of the last 10 matchups. The last time Tulane and UNO took the court against each other the Green Wave won 3-2 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on January 23, 2021.

On Friday, the Wave will take on Providence for just the second time in program history. The match between Tulane and the Friars is scheduled for first serve at 6:30 p.m. In the only previous meeting between the two programs the Green Wave earned a 3-2 victory Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1996.

Tulane will close out play in the Pelican Invitational on Saturday against the Alabama State Hornets at 3 p.m. The Green Wave holds a 2-0 record all-time against the Hornets with a pair of 3-0 sweeps in 2017 (September 16 โ New Orleans) and 2018 (August 31 โ Atlanta).

LAST WEEK
The Wave posted a 1-1 record at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. The Green Wave opened with a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, September 12, before falling to the Jaguars of South Alabama 3-1 on Saturday, September 13.

Burks and Skyers each earned All-Tournament honors for their performances in the tournament. Burks led the team with 38 kills to go with 15 digs and four service aces while Skyers tallied 15 kills and 12 total blocks in two matches.

UP NEXT
The Wave will open American Conference play at home against Memphis and Temple. Tulane will square off against the Tigers on Friday, September 26, at 6:30 p.m. before taking on the Owls on Sunday, September 28, at 1 p.m.
