
Coetzee Finishes Second in the 500 Free to Highlight the First Day of Action at the American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships

GREENSBORO, NC – Lise Coetzee placed second overall in the 500 free to highlight the first day of action for Tulane at the American Conference Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Overall, the Green Wave are ranked sixth with 191 points. The program had four top 10 individual or team event finishes and nine point-scorers on the opening day.
Coetzee swam a 4:45.45 to earn silver in the event and 28 team points. Her time was a season-best and just under her previous collegiate best that ranked second all-time at Tulane in the event set at last year's American Conference Championships. Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou finished fifth in the event with 4:49.15 to earn 25 points. Rafaela Sumida took 13th with 4:55.38 for 14 points. Sydney Mullin placed 17th overall for nine points.
The 200 medley relay team of Andrea Zeebe, Paula Gaya Bisquerra, Nicole Fant and Eliza Lennox took seventh place with a 1:40.98. The group earned 46 team points.
The 200 IM saw three Tulane point scorers as Danielle Barberie took 12th (2:02.96) for 15 points, Shahboz placed 19th (2:03.32) for six points and Ebba Holgerrson earned 21st (2:04.91) for four points.
Fant was Tulane's highest finisher in the 50 free (23.62).
The relay diving team grouping of Eva Shawver, Libby Brewer and Taylor Cekay finished eighth overall (212.90 points) for 44 team points.
Next, the Green Wave continues competing on the second day of the American Conference Championships on Thursday, Feb. 19, starting at 9:30 a.m. for the preliminaries and finishing with the swim finals at 5 p.m. The 1m diving preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. and finish at 4 p.m. with the finals. The events on tap on the second day are the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 1m diving, 200 free relay, and the 400 medley relay.
